Securing Legislation for Statewide Victim Compensation

Problem

Common Justice, a leading criminal justice nonprofit, engaged us to build a communications strategy to pass the Fair Access to Victim Compensation Act, which sought to remove systemic barriers preventing survivors from accessing state-owed support.

Solution

We executed a wrap-around communications campaign—driving news outreach, social media strategy, press events, community engagement, and paid advertising (including a billboard bus). We secured an editorial board meeting and endorsement from The Buffalo News and tailored messaging at every step to build momentum.

Results

The campaign generated widespread media coverage across outlets like City & State, PIX11, and Spectrum News 1, driving political support and public awareness. The legislation was signed into law by Governor Hochul in December 2023, marking a major win for survivors.
