In both fields, he excels at translating intricate policy discussions into compelling, accessible, and persuasive narratives, securing impactful coverage on political and social issues within the New York media market. At Actum, a New York City public affairs and PR firm, he supported earned media campaigns with a social impact, including justice-oriented non-profits like Common Justice and the Federation of Protestant Welfare Organizations (FPWA).
Dean brings an extensive journalistic perspective to communications work. His writing and reporting have appeared in Hell Gate, New York City’s Gotham Gazette, The Albany Times Union, and Atlanta Magazine. His background in New York cultural and political media helps clients tell credible and resonant stories. As an investigative journalist, he’s cultivated expertise in in-depth research and interviewing a diverse range of stakeholders.
Currently, Dean is an MFA candidate at NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, specializing in Literary Reportage, a program focusing on deeply reported New York stories and investigative techniques. Prior to his graduate studies, he earned his undergraduate degree in American Studies from Vassar College. There, his award-winning senior thesis, titled ”The Gorgeous Vortex: Agency, Trauma, and Hope in Poughkeepsie,“ explored Poughkeepsie’s community leadership and policy challenges.
